ADRIAN & BLISSFIELD

A pair of Adrian & Blissfield GP-9s straddle a pair of covered hoppers on this southbound run on the former NS Jackson to Lansing, MI line. The acquisition of the line, which according to news releases is to be the Jackson & Lansing Railroad, was announced in trade publications around the twenty-sixth of October 2010. Rumors of the pending sale have been rampant among local railfans.
This photo was made on November 2, 2010 on Lansing's south side by RE Holmes. The switch at the front of ADBF 1760 leads to what is left of what was called Cavanaugh or South Yard in the Conrail days. The yard saw limited use while under NS ownership.
The covered hoppers haul plastic beads (possibly styrofoam beads) to an operation off South Washington Avenue. The tracks that are used to get to that customer are interesting in and of themselves. If I understand things correctly they once were a connection to get from the Lansing/Jackson line to another line that had started life as part of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern between Lansing and cities to the south and west - including Dimondale, Eaton Rapids and Albion (my reference maps do not show where this line went from Albion if indeed it did go further).
